At a glance
What it is
Webflow is a visual website builder that outputs clean, fast pages and includes tools for managing content, forms, and hosting.
Problems it solves
Marketing teams wait on developers for every page change, while template builders limit design and produce heavy pages.
Who it suits
Marketing and design teams planning a site they can change themselves, and owners comparing site builders.
How to choose
Choose Webflow for design-led marketing sites with moderate content needs. Choose something else for complex logic, deep integrations, or large stores.
What it means
Design and build in the same tool
Webflow is a visual site builder that generates standard, clean code from what a designer builds on screen, and hosts the result. It also includes a content system for blogs, listings, and similar pages.
Compared with a template tool, you get much more control over layout and animation. Compared with a hand-coded site, you get editors who can change pages without developers.
Its limits come from being a platform. Custom logic, unusual data, and deep connections to other systems need workarounds, outside services, or a different tool.

Where it fits
Is Webflow the right base for your site?
Three common situations, and what we usually advise in each.
What best describes the site?
Choose this when
Brand matters, pages change often, and a designer or marketer owns the site.
- What you get
- Webflow is usually a strong fit. You get a precise design, fast pages, and editors who can work alone.
- Keep in mind
- Agree the content structure early, or editors will build inconsistent pages.
Choose this when
Hundreds of pages, several kinds of record, and rules about who edits what.
- What you get
- Possible, with careful content modeling. Compare it with a dedicated content platform.
- Keep in mind
- Collection limits and the editing experience should be checked against your volumes.
Choose this when
Accounts, dashboards, payments, or complex logic.
- What you get
- Webflow can host the public site while an application runs separately.
- Keep in mind
- Do not stretch a site builder into an application. It will cost more later.

Choosing the right approach
Where Webflow stops
Webflow is a platform, and platforms set limits. Complex business logic, unusual data, member areas with detailed permissions, and large product catalogs are all better handled elsewhere.
We will say so early. A common answer is to keep the public site in Webflow and run the application part separately, joined by a sign-in and a shared design.
Technical depth
How we build with Webflow
For your developers and IT lead: our Webflow choices on structure, extending the platform, and search and speed, and the reasoning behind each.
We use a consistent class naming scheme, shared components, and design variables, so changes happen in one place. Visual builders still need discipline.
- Clean headings, metadata, and structured data.
- Optimized images and careful use of scripts and animation.
Common questions
Questions about Webflow
Can we move our Webflow site elsewhere later?
The design can be exported as code, but the content tools and forms need rebuilding. Plan for that if portability matters to you.
Is Webflow good for search visibility?
It produces clean markup and fast pages, and gives control over titles and structure. Results still depend on content and other factors.
Can Webflow run a store?
It has store features suited to smaller catalogs. For larger or more complex stores we compare it with Shopify.
Who looks after the site after launch?
Your editors handle content. We can look after the technical side, such as custom code and integrations, if you want us to.
